Salient Information for Microsoft Partners: Distilled, but not aged!

September 2005 - Posts

Well folks,

I just returned from Bismarck and Fargo, ND.  I conducted TS2 seminars in both places. I got some great questions on some of the products I highlighted and was unable to answer a few at the time.   I am still researchinf, but wanted to "commit" myself to their answr, so I am posting the questions now.

Microsoft POS:

Is there a way to set up Microsoft POS to handle foodstamps?  Specifically, can it be configured to automatically calculate what the totals are for Food stamp viable purchases and non-foodstamp purchases?  An example would be a small convenience store in a socio-economically deprived area.

Microsoft Small Business Accounting (SBA):

Can SBA accommodate "FUND" accounting for nonprofit companies?

First off, I am not an accounting expert, so I neede to find out precisely what fund accounting was.  I found a definition on techlistings.net

Fund accounting is a system of accounting used by state and local governments, as well as by nonprofit organizations, to keep track of separate funds. Each fund is considered a separate entity and therefore must be accounted for with a separate set of self-balancing accounts that record the expenses and revenues, assets, and liabilities of that fund. Funds must be tracked and balanced as separate accounts because each one has a different set of limitations and regulations dictating how it can be used. This is different from the standard commercial accounting software used by for-profit businesses.

...Stay tuned for the answers.

Just got one in...   Microsoft POS will NOT support foodstamps, but Microsoft RMS certainly can do it.  So if you are wanting to stick to MS solutions and you need to support the taking of Food Stamps, MIcrosoft RMS is the answer.

Cheers,

Woody
