Somehow I never seem to remember. And I get bitten every time. I am so used to using wireless to connect to my network, at home and away, that I just don't think about it. Recently I've had several occassions to join wireless notebooks to a Small Business Server domain. It is so easy. Just fire up the notebook on wireless and use Internet Explorer to access http://mysbsserver/ConnectComputer. Up comes the wizard and walks you through the process. Seems to work great. Well, until you get to the part where you have to log on as the assigned user. Can't do it. Why? Well my take on it is that the wireless doesn't start until you log on. Can't log on until you enter your credentials and they are accepted. First time you log on, the system must check your credentials against the domain controller. Oops! Can't get to the domain controller because your wireless hasn't fired up yet. Once you have actually logged on then your credentials are cached on the machine and it will let you log on without actually contacting the DC. Somehow though, just hardwiring the notebook afterward doesn't seem to do it. Best to unjoin the computer from the domain and hook up to a hardwired connection and start from scratch. Better yet, connect your computer via a cable at the beginning and save yourself some grief.
The other day I wrote about the default permission for Advanced Find views was to allow a user to only see their own views, or to share them with other, but explicitly share them. I suggested that the permissions could be upgraded to allow a user to see others' views. WRONG! Seems when you try to changed that permission, there are only TWO choices, Owner (you can view your own views) and NONE. Guess folks will have to continue to explicitly share those views.
